Creating Scratch-n-Sniff Embellishments

Who doesn’t have memories of scratch-n-sniff stickers from grade school? They were so much more fun to receive than just a normal, everyday sticker! Well, if you can heat emboss, you can recreate that experience. All you need is some clear embossing powder, VersaMark ink, bold stamps, a heat tool and sugar-free drink mix.

First, mix 1 1/2 parts of clear embossing powder to 1 part sugar-free drink mix.

Next, using the VersaMark ink, stamp the bold image onto cardstock. Heat emboss the image. It’s just that easy!

Tips and hints:

  • Any pigment ink will work, same as any heat embossing project. However, if any areas aren’t fully covered by the embossing powder mixture, the base color will show through.
  • When you choose the drink mix, keep both the color and the scent in mind. Colored embossing powder will work, but may combine with the drink mix to create a muddy mess – that’s why clear embossing powder is best.
  • Why sugar-free drink mix? Because the sugar in regular drink mix will brown when heated.
  • Don’t forget the possibility of using sugar-free cocoa for a nice chocolately scent!
